How to connect a domain from another provider to your Squarespace website.

You don’t need to bring your domain over from another provider. To connect a domain from another provider to your Squarespace website, follow these steps:

1. Log in to your Squarespace account and go to the Home Menu.

2. Click Settings, then select Domains.

3. Choose Use a domain I own.

4. Enter your domain name purchased from the other provider and click Continue.

5. Select Connect Domain (do not choose “Transfer Domain” unless you want to move domain registration to Squarespace).

6. Squarespace will display the DNS records you need to update at your domain provider. These typically include:

   • A records pointing to Squarespace IP addresses

   • CNAME record for the www subdomain pointing to ext-cust.squarespace.com

7. Log in to your domain provider’s account and access the DNS management section.

8. Update the DNS settings according to the values provided by Squarespace:

   • Remove any existing conflicting A or CNAME records.

   • Add or modify the A records to the Squarespace IPs.

   • Add or modify the CNAME record for www.

9. Save your DNS changes and allow time for propagation (this can take up to 72 hours, but often completes sooner).

10. Return to Squarespace and click Refresh in the domain settings page to check connection status.

11. Once verified, your domain will be connected to your Squarespace site.

Tips:

• Keep the TTL (Time to Live) values low during setup to speed propagation.

• If you’re unsure about managing DNS, consult your domain provider’s support or Squarespace support documentation.

• Your domain provider remains responsible for domain renewal unless you transfer registration to Squarespace.
