The importance of good Home page design on a Squarespace website.

Squarespace website design

However you promote your Squarespace website you need your Home page to be the best page of your website. Whether it’s your landing page from an advert you have running or the page you have on your business card it’s the first thing a potential customer will see. If the Home page works well your engagement figures on your subsequent pages will probably also be good. If your Home page is a turkey you visitors probably won’t go any further into your website.

The Squarespace 7.1 design is made up of sections. On a Home page you should use the top section to tell your user in the simplest terms what it is you do and why you’re special. You should use a H1 heading with this text. Have your best image or your best video sitting in behind this heading. This is the first thing your user will see.

The next section down should ideally have another sentence with a secondary piece of text elaborating a bit more on the text you’ve written above it. This should be an H2 piece of text. Remember a picture paints a thousand words so this is where you should put your second best image. Make sure you label your images for SEO purposes.

As you go down the Home page use each section to talk briefly about the various things you offer. Use buttons to link the brief sections with the more detailed pages you’ve built. Google needs to understand your website and it follows the links you put in the buttons to the subsequent pages on your website. Try and match the button colours to your branding and all of these little things count toward a good website design.

If you post on social media regularly you can feed your posts into your Squarespace website. There’s an Instagram block you can use to feed in your latest insta posts to your pages. It’s a good thing to put on your Home page.

Lastly a contact form is essential on your Home page. You should not only have a form your user can fill in but also your email and any other details you think relevant like telephone number or social links. The contact form will go to your email and you can put that in under ‘storage’ on the edit screen.
