We specialise in a number of different things but custom website design is what we think we’re particularly good at. Squarespace is an excellent platform for you to choose because once your website is built you, as the owner, have complete control over adding and editing your content. You can take control which not so long ago wasn’t possible, you had to pay your website designer to do these easy things for you.
We can build a beautiful design around your content. We start by looking at others in your industry and get a feel for the type of website your clients like to see. You have a very short period of time to impress a new visitor to your website and it will be the design that impresses them before they read your content. If your design is dull or outdated they won’t read all of your great content.
The structure of your design is really important. One we’ve designed your Home page we’ll carry on and use that design for the subsequent pages. The ‘journey’ your visitor takes is important. You need them to engage with you as a result of visiting your website. Ideally they will call you, they’ll fill in a form, or better still they’ll buy something. The pages need to be structured in a way that they can move around, read your text and look at your images without getting lost or confused. There are so many websites we look at that you don’t know what to do next or the message is confusing. Jargon can be a killer and if the wording isn’t clear you’ll loose that hard earned users visit.
The Home page is the most important page of your website. It needs to well designed to capture the attention of your user and it need to be structured in a way that you can guide that user to the pages they want. The Home page is generally made up of clear sections that deal concisely with your services or product. Each section should have some sort of call to action to move the user along in their journey. There also needs to be a short section about you and your business and a contact section with a form to fill in. Avoid popups and irritating things you want your visitor to do before they’ve even read anything.
Once the visitor has been impressed by your Home page and moved to one of your more detailed pages they will be a lot more receptive to what you say as they’ve been engaged enough by your Home page to carry on moving through the site. The design should be consistent throughout the site subconsciously reassuring that visitor that they are in the right place. Give them an opportunity to look at your shop or price list but be gentle with them and don’t ‘hit them over the head’ with your message. Allow them to come back and see more if they want to. If they want to engage with you they will so also make it easy to fill in a form or call or email.
Once your website is built, it’s working and functioning correctly and you’ve had a few successful visits it’s important to start maintaining it and working on your SEO. Writing blogs are by far the best way for Google and the other search engines to notice you. It’s important to write good stuff that visitors will read. Don’t write rubbish. See if you can do one a month to start with and then build it up as your workload allows.
